[Denver] Once again, The United Methodist Church has sent a message of inhospitality to lesbian and gay Christians and their families. The doors of our church continue to be closed.
The General Conference has refused the opportunity to bring healing to a divided church. Our church is clearly not of one mind on this subject--a reality the General Conference refuses to acknowledge. Lesbian and gay Christians, and their families and loved ones, once again bear the pain of this repudiation.
Reconciling Congregations across the country will continue to model faithfulness to the Gospel of Jesus Christ for the larger church. These communitites of faith--where all persons are welcomed regardless of sexual orientation--are leaders in bringing healing and reconciliation to a divided church.
A groundswell of support for a more open church has been unleashed this past year through the "Open the Doors" campaign. This wave of hospitality will continue to grow, until the doors of The United Methodist Church are open to all of God's children.
