I have been interested for a long time in things generally considered "The Humanities" and in the arts, particularly music.
The "humanities" interests in some ways started with my father being a Methodist minister, and me growing up in the parsonage. Both parents were long advocates of things with a spiritual and service to humanity emphasis.
I was born near Chicago near the end of my father's seminary years.
My first four years were spent in Arkansas, my parents' home state.
Then we moved to
Nebraska where the climate was better for my asthma. I graduated in
1964 from Ainsworth
High School, in 1969 from Nebraska Wesleyan University, and in 1975
from the School of
Theology in Claremont. I was ordained a "deacon" in 1970, an
"elder" in 1976, and relinquished my credentials in 1996. I
served the Nebraska Conference of the UMC as an associate pastor in the
Jefferson County Larger Parish 1975-78 and the PEACe Parish near
Lincoln from 1978-79. I founded Ministry in Human Sexuality in
1980 and served as its executive director from 1981-1988. I
enjoyed teaching, doing workshops, advocating for sexuality education,
those who experience disabilities, and GLBT folk, and an active
sexuality and pastoral counseling practice. More about my varied
career here.
We moved to Denver in 1988, where I have enjoyed the sights of the Rocky Mountains.
Anyway, these are some of the things that interest me in the humanities and arts areas:
